Creating Space
Many parents want to know how to make their children love learning, be passionate about a sport, or how to make them love Jesus. I really don't believe that we can truly control any of the things about our children. But for all things - we can make space. If I force feed my child peas, they probably will grow to dislike them if they ever liked them to begin with. But if I place peas on the dinner table once a week, it's possible that maybe someday my child will try them, and like them. Notice that I didn't say that it guarantees my child will like them. There are no guarantees. And my child's life is theirs to live. I can guide and correct them and in the end, I can hope that they stay awhile in the spaces I create.
I hope they they like peas. Because in my old age I'm going to need someone to eat pea soup with.
